Common Mistakes One Makes During On-Site SEO
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the center point of digital marketing. But there is more to SEO than it meets the eye. The domain of SEO is very vast. The on-site optimization of SEO is itself so huge that it alone offers one the complete agenda of organic SERP. The SEO is known by name to all but its technicality is very much an unknown matter for many casual followers with no actual know-how about the subject. This is where many make mistakes. Some of the most commonly made mistakes are discussed below.
1. Not following one’s own URLs
Keeping a URL hidden from the search engine for privacy purpose is a good tactic but not following it is not an option. This is because nofollow means that the URL cannot be used as backlink but it does not mean that it will not be indexed by search engines. It actually harms the site’s page rank.
2. Not using canonicalization
Canonicalization means to specify the main site from its alternate sites through tagging. This helps to levitate the page rank without the fear of getting toppled by a lookalike site even though it may collect many links.
3. Poor use of outbound links
Outbound links express the page’s authority. If the pages linked through outbound linking are spam or unindexed, then the parent site’s authority dilutes. So it is important to choose appropriate sites for out bounding.
4. Poor number of outbound links
The sheer number of outbound link elevates the page rank considering most of these sub sites are not spam sites. Numerical superiority is appreciable for SEO.
5. Poor internal link structure
The authoritativeness of a site depends on the internal link structure of the site. If the structure is sound like flat type or pyramid type than the flourish of the site will flourish and the page-ranking will go up.
6. Poor URL architecture
The site design is the main component for SEO to operate. If the URL structure, content and site system is compromised then it is unfruitful.
7. Using frames
Frames cause glitches in a search engine as these are not compatible with web based conceptualized models and are hard to index. So using these actually harms the page rank of a site.
8. Unindexable formats
Search engines have difficulty in accessing and indexing files of older format. So it is better not to use these unindexable formats.
9. Not using transcripts
A video or a picture without a proper linking name to the website will do no good in accumulating the page rank for the site. So it is clever to use proper transcript for good SEO.
10. Not using properly image alt
The replacing of text with an image by image alt attribute is not good for indexing because sometimes the platform is not compatible.
11. Unintentional cloaking
Unintentional cloaking is when the visibility of a text is compromised by the color of the text background. This is will harm the page rank of the site.
12. Redirects
Sometimes the site is cloaked by a good site and while visiting it the viewer is intentionally dragged to an unexpected site. This is harmful to the page rank of the site.
13. Missing Meta description
The Meta description is a major part of on-site SEO and is needed to be well written and unique. If it is missing or plagiarised then it is harmful to site reputation & rank.
14. No XML sitemap
Keeping an out of date site is definitely a blow to one’s page ranking.
15. Bad use of subheading
The subheading is a chief component of on-site SEO and could be used many times. So using it wisely is advisable and not extravagantly.
16. Bad formatting
The looks of the site are everything besides the content. So it is of utmost importance to keep it well under the site’s flavor without going ballistic.
